Develop or advance your professional knowledge and skills in effective counselling practice.

With Massey’s Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Guidance, you will learn the foundational theory behind working as a counsellor in the Aotearoa, New Zealand context. You will develop knowledge and understanding in counselling and guidance practice, as well as learning about the importance of culture in counselling and working with families and couples.

Whether you are already in a counselling or guidance role or considering moving to this field, this Diploma will advance your learning and is the first step in the Master of Counselling Studies.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Guidance can be a stand-alone qualification for use in the service, care and support industries. Alternatively, it offers you a pathway to becoming a professional counsellor, by being selected for and enrolling in the Masters of Counselling Studies.

The Master of Counselling Studies requires selection from the Postgraduate Diploma and is an advanced qualification that when completed, will enable you to gain professional membership to practice as a counsellor. In addition, you will develop knowledge and abilities to prepare you to do research relevant to your existing or proposed practice and profession.

In both qualifications you will be taught by highly qualified, well-regarded lecturers who are supportive and provide a high level of pastoral care.
